Background
Despite generally being considered a reversible disorder, takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC) is increasingly associated with significant short-term morbidity and mortality. We sought to examine the association between pre-existing medical comorbidity and short-term mortality in TC.
Methods
Adult subjects diagnosed with TC at 2 academic referral centers were included in the study. Overall burden of medical comorbidity was approximated with the use of the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI). Multivariable logistic regression was used to test for the association between CCI scores and death prior to hospital discharge with age, sex, pre-existing psychiatric illness, and duration of hospitalization included as covariates.
Results
