Since 1996, juvenile crime rates have generally decreased but one alarming pattern has emerged. The rates of antisocial and criminal behaviors among adolescents have been decreasing more for boys than girls (Puzzanchera, 2013; Zahn et al., 2008). Nearly every day there is a news report depicting the deviant or criminal behaviors of adolescent girls. A recent video search on the YouTube website using the keywords “girl fights” yielded over 600,000 results, demonstrating the commonality with which female deviance is occurring. Moreover, these antisocial behaviors are increasing most among Black girls. For instance, in August 2013, a White woman in Pittsburgh was brutally beaten by three teenage Black girls after confronting them for throwing a bottle at her car.
