Black cumin (Nigella sativa L.) is a plant native to the Middle East and Asia is widely used as a spice and food preservative. In particular, Islamic literature records that black cumin has long been used as a traditional herbal remedy for asthma, inflammation, and pain. This study evaluated the anti-inflammatory effect of black cumin seed oil (BCO) in LPS-induced inflammation in RAW264. 7 cells. BCO was treated with 25, 50, 100 μg/ml. To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect, secretion of inflammatory cytokine (IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1β), mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokine (iNOS, COX-2, IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1β), and nitric oxide (NO) production were measured. The secretion of inflammatory cytokines was significantly decreased in IL-6 and TNF-α. The mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokines was significantly decreased in iNOS, COX-2, IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1β. NO prodcution was also significantly decreased. In addition …
