Aim
Our understanding of the biogeographical history of the flora of the Pacific is hampered by limited geographical sampling, and the evolutionary history for many species‐rich lineages in the Pacific remain poorly known. Here, we examine the spatial and temporal context of the evolutionary history of Peperomia (Piperaceae) in the Pacific, where it is one of the largest angiosperm groups (c. 100 species) and a ubiquitous part of wet forests. We focus on the native taxa on the Hawaiian Islands (25 species) where they represent a hotspot of diversity for the genus in the Pacific.
