简介
This Atlas is the result of a collaborative four-year research project between the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation and the Saudi Wildlife Commission (SWC); the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea & Gulf of Aden (PERSGA); Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Ministry of Agriculture; Marine Fisheries Department (MFD); the National Coral Reef Institute (NCRI); NOVA Southeastern University; the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN); and Cambridge Coastal Research Unit, University of Cambridge.
The Atlas would not have been possible without the generous support of His Royal Highness Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz. Prince Khaled bin Sultan has a true passion for sustaining the health of our living oceans and continually demonstrates his commitment by supporting scientific research that is fundamental to the implementation of conservation actions. Over the four-year Red Sea research project, Prince Khaled supported the Foundation’s efforts in Saudi Arabia to complete the characterization and mapping of marine habitats and to assess the structure, composition, and condition of shallow coral reef ecosystems along the Saudi Arabian Red Sea coastline. Prince Khaled provided the research team with full access to the M/Y Golden Shadow for use as the research platform for the four Expeditions, with additional support for airborne hyperspectral surveys with the Cessna 208 amphibious seaplane, the Golden Eye.
