DISCUSSION

This report highlights a case of acute onset manic symptoms, in a person having depression, the onset of which was temporally associated with the administration of lurasidone, and which resolved on stopping the drug. Till now, in all the reported cases of lurasidone-associated mania, the onset was within 10 days of starting the drug or increasing its dose (except one in which onset occurred after 60 days). 2, 3 Also, in each of the reports, the manic symptoms resolved within 1 month of stopping the drug, switching to other AAs, and/or addition of lithium or valproate. 2, 3 Our patient fits well with this clinical profile. However, a prominent difference was that all other reported cases had a prior diagnosis of mania, bipolar disorder, or schizoaffective disorder, whereas our patient only had a single depressive episode before the index episode.
