Background
South Asians (SAs) are at increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Despite advances in pharmacologic therapy and preventive interventions, ASCVD is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among SAs.
Methods
A retrospective analysis of SA adults in the Baylor Scott & White (BSWH) DILWALE SA Cardiovascular Health Registry from 2003 to 2022 was performed. Prescription data and laboratory values from the electronic health record were extracted to assess statin therapy prescription and LDL metrics among individuals with established ASCVD. The incidence of recurrent cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction [MI] and stroke) was assessed using ICD-10 codes.
Results
Of 38,635 SA adults, 3,220 (8.3%) had clinical ASCVD. Among these, 2,911 (90%) were on statin therapy and mean LDL-C among was 82 mg/dL (SD=±35 mg/dL). Recurrent cardiovascular events …
