Dementia is a cognitive impairment that hinders and interferes with the independent routine functioning of an individual. It results from multiple diseases like neurodegenerative dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and other cerebrovascular diseases. These are common amongst elderly patients, while the younger population is more prone to dementia caused by traumatic brain injury and brain tumors. As of today, there have been numerous small molecules employed for the treatment of dementia. However, the overall effectiveness of the regimen is not sufficient compared to its side effects due to various inherent limitations.
