This chapter examines the role that churches and their associated events play within a specific community, whether in a geographic location. The churches include a large independent church that uses its buildings as a commercial conference centre, an Anglican village parish church adjacent to an urban priority area and a city-centre Anglican fresh expression immersed in issues of justice. The use of events by churches enables the development of a sense of community, whether within their own locality, within their church or in a community connected to the church and its ethos or interests. The mediatisation of the ritual of this community-within-a-community has also become part of the Sunday night/Monday morning ritual for observers, drawn into community online.
