Blood accessible biomarkers are becoming highly attractive tools to monitor disease progression and response to therapies in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Thanks to high throughput" omic" technologies, valuable molecular biomarkers including miRNA, metabolites, and proteins associated with DMD pathogenesis were identified. My research dissertation focuses on the discovery of serum protein biomarkers that are specific to DMD pathogenesis followed by the validation of inflammatory biomarkers that are believed to drive the early stage of the pathogenesis. The Aim 1 of my study focuses on the use of two high through-put multiplexing techniques including Somascan aptamer assay and tandem mass tag-(TMT) technique for the initial discovery of serum protein biomarkers in DMD.
