简介
Introduction limate change is a unseen serious threat to the environment causing imbalance in sustainable development that is often not taken seriously by common man. The evidence on the negative consequences from climate change on human health and well-being is growing (McMichael et al. 1996; McMichael et al. 2003; McMichael et al. 2004; McMichael 2008; Costello et al. 2009). It has several direct measureable adverse effects on working people such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke that impact health and productivity (Kjellstrom et al. 2009), as well as indirect effects including increased risks for infectious diseases, changing distribution and transmission patterns of vector-borne diseases, malnutrition, water and sanitation problems, and injuries due to extreme weather events (Costello et al. 2009). Children, old/aged people, poor, sick, and those doing high intensity work in hot environments are highly vulnerable to heat related adverse impacts.
The world is getting hotter and predictions by IPCC suggest that temperatures will continue to increase. During the last 100 years, the global average surface temperature has increased about 0.74 C and over the past 50 years, with more widespread changes in extreme events, temperature and precipitation patterns, and a faster rate of temperature increases reported over the recent times (IPCC 2010). It is estimated that temperature will increase a further 1.8–4.0 C (estimated average 3.0 C) by 2100 (IPCC 2010). Tropical countries are at a risk of being affected more as they already face extremely hot conditions.
