We have recently reported that there is no test that fulfills all the established criteria for a good predictor of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP)[1, 2]. However, the predictive value of some laboratory tests remains controversial [3]. We have investigated the usefulness of calciurn/creatinine ratio and other laboratory tests as predictors of the development of HDP. A cohort of 387 nulliparous pregnant women attending for prenatal care at three affiliated hospitals of Centro Rosarino de Estudios Perinatales, Rosario, Argentina, was followed prospectively from the 20th week of gestation until delivery. After entering the study, urinary calcium excretion, hematocrit, platelet count, serum uric acid, proteins and total calcium concentrations were measured at 20 and 27 weeks of gestation.
