Aims
HIV infection increases risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) by a factor of 1.5-2.0. Exercise can improve cardiovascular health for HIV+ adults. However, we do not know how to sustain exercise in this population in the home setting. Examining the relationship between neural activation and behavior has the potential to help optimize effective self-management interventions. In particular, we investigated how two neural networks associated with non-social and task oriented cognition (Task Positive Network) and socio-emotional and motivational cognition (Default Mode Network) may relate to physical activity in HIV+ adults.
Methods
Thirty-five HIV+ adults, on HIV medication, with undetectable HIV viral load, at high risk for CVD, and not meeting exercise guidelines completed assessments of exercise, biological markers of cardiovascular health, functional heath, and underwent a novel neuroimaging paradigm …
