Methods: We performed continuous 24-hour personal CO monitoring (Lascar Electronics, Erie, PA) and pre-and post-cooking eCOHb (coVita, Haddonfield, NJ) in 28 women cooking with biomass fuels from Araihazar, Bangladesh. Respiratory questionnaires and spirometry (EasyOne nDD Medical, Andover, MA) were performed and exhaled breath condensate (EBC) was collected (R-Tube Respiratory Research Inc., Charlottesville, VA). Analysis for EBC pH, a marker of airway inflammation, was performed.
Results: eCOHb testing was performed up to seven times per participant (n= 175). Personal CO monitors collected ambient CO levels every 10 seconds and the Coburn, Forster, Kane equation was used to calculate corresponding CO monitor COHb levels.
