简介
We are writing to express our concern about the recently confirmed outbreak of Rift Valley fever (RVF) in humans in Mbarara District, Uganda. As per the report by WHO, the outbreak has increased to 20 human cases, including 4 fatalities, which is a cause of alarm for the public health authorities (WHO, 2023).
RVF is a zoonotic disease that primarily affects animals such as sheep, cattle, and goats but can also be transmitted to humans (Akash et al., 2023). The disease is transmitted through contact with infected animal blood or tissues, and sometimes through mosquito bites (Oyas et al., 2018). The recent outbreak in Uganda highlights the importance of awareness of risk factors for RVF infection and protective measures to reduce human infections and deaths.
