简介
In Japan, social withdrawal called hikikomori concerns an important number of individuals, according to recent surveys (2010). Furthermore, many people who do not withdraw report to “understand the feeling of being hikikomori”. This phenomenon represents a great issue for the Japanese society. Recently, the Japanese government published the results of an epidemiological survey. The present article is the result of a synthesis and translation of the report, allowing researchers and clinicians outside Japan to reach very recent data. This work contributes to a re-definition of the phenomenon and outlines the main characteristics related to this conduct. It should contribute to research and international exchanges on the topic of social withdrawal that seems to spare no western society.
