METHODS: We used available data from six randomized treatment trials (PHIRST, SC-TRE+ TRUST (S+ T), FREEDOM (F)-C, F-C2, and FM). Patients were included regardless of the treatment allocation. We categorized patients into three age groups following traditional cut-offs (≤ 50, 50-65, and≥ 65 years old). Variables were studied with pairwise testing, as well as with chi-square tests to assess the hypothesis of no association between age and each variable. The results section reports the chi-square test p-values. RESULTS:
In total there were 2392 patients comprising three age groups:≤ 50 (n= 1353, 56.6%), 50-65 (n= 684, 28.6%) and≥ 65 years old (n= 355, 14.8%).
