Project Description: Engagement of people with dementia is thought to be the critical element for successful psychosocial interventions. Observational measures have been developed to study engagement in residential care. However these may not be suitable in home care where the risk of a hawthorn effect is increased and travel and logistics of observations are prohibitive. The aims of the current study were to develop and validate measures of client engagement for the home care setting. The Homecare Measure of Engagement-Staff report (HoME-S) consisted of five Likert-style questionnaire items designed to specifically correspond to each of five previously conceptualised dimensions of engagement: client acceptance, attention, attitude, appropriateness, and duration of engagement.
