Lichens and lichen products have been used in traditional medicines for centuries. The lichens collected from various geographic regions in Jordan have remained unexplored for which this research has been conducted with an aim of testing the phytochemical and antimicrobial properties of lichens present there. Three lichen species were investigated in this study for potential antimicrobial activity and these are; Xanthoria parietina, Physconia sp., and Tornabenia atlantica against eleven bacterial species, namely Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus lentus, Micrococcus luteus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aeruginosa and, Serratia marcescens bacterial species.
