Abstract IEEE802. 15.4 is a standard proposed to support physical and MAC layers for low power, low data rate and low cost Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications. ZigBee standard supports upper layers. The goals of ZigBee standard are compatible with that of IEEE802. 15.4, hence, both standards names are accompanied in one expression, that is, the IEEE802. 15.4/ZigBee standard. Beacon Order (BO) and Superframe Order (SO) are the main factors that affects the beacon frame performance. Those two parameters determine node's active and inactive periods and through which the node duty cycle is estimated. BO and SO values must be chosen carefully when the standard MAC is parameterized since some combinations prevent the overall network operation while others may degrade standard performance dramatically.
