Classifies the literature concerned with the relationship of economic variables to behavioral disorder into 4 methodological categories by 2 orthogonal dimensions: cross-sectional vs longitudinal and individual aggregate. Because of their promise for determining the causal sequence of economic and disorder variables, longitudinal studies are assembled and reviewed. To coordinate research in this area, a model is offered that synthesizes many of the theoretical links joining economic change and behavioral disorder.
