简介
Malaria is a life-threatening parasitic disease. Successful treatment and management of malaria mainly depend on the proper and effective diagnosis. Therefore, this paper aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a Conventional Rapid Diagnostic Test (cRDT) in comparison to microscopy. Blood samples (2-3 ml) were collected from 200 consented study subjects (Volunteers) and analyzed using microscopy and cRDT. The result revealed an overall prevalence of 139 (69.5%) and 126 (63.8%) by microscopy and cRDT, respectively. The sensitivity of the cRDT was 71.94%, while the specificity value was 57.38%. The positive and negative predictive values were 79.40% and 47.30%, respectively. Therefore, cRDT shows high sensitivity and predictive values with moderate specificity and negative predictive values. Although these results are considered low compared to the recommendations of the world health organization, cRDT is recommended especially in rural communities and cities where standard laboratories are lacking, especially in emergencies.
