Antenatal care is an important strategy for maternal survival. In Nigeria the utilization of the available antenatal services is low and as a result there has been an increase in maternal morbidity and mortality. This study was conducted to determine morbidity pattern and pregnancy outcomes of recently delivered mothers seen at Adeoyo maternity hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, South-West Nigeria. A retrospective review of the case records of all women who received antenatal care and who delivered their babies at Adeoyo maternity hospital from 1st January 2004 to December 2008 was conducted. Records on socio-demographic characteristics, gestational age at booking, regularity of antenatal visits, and history of ill health during pregnancy, mode of delivery and outcome of pregnancy were documented using a structured proforma. Out of 380 records retrieved, 362 with complete information were eventually utilized for the study. Descriptive and Chi-square test were used for data analysis. Poor pregnancy outcomes and high incidence of childbirth through caesarian section were more common among expectant mothers who do not receive antenatal care.
