Arsenic (As) which is a heavy metal is ubiquitously present in soil as well as in water. As has been ranked as a potent carcinogen and is found to be very harmful to all the living beings ranging from bacteria to plant to animals as well as humans. All the organisms possess various defense mechanisms to combat such types of stresses. However, if it remains detoxified in plants, it may lead to oxidative stress, misfolded proteins thus disrupting the functioning of the proteins, mutations in the genetic material which ultimately results in the inhibition of the growth, disruption of photosynthesis, and loss in crop yield.
