Twelve triorganotin dithiophosphate esters R3SnS2P (OR') 2, where R= C6H5 when R'= CH3, C2H5,«-C3H7,¡-C3H7, m-C4H9,¡-C4H9, or C6H5, whereR= CH3 when R'= CH3, C2H5, zt-C3H7, or z-C3H7, and where R= C^ Hn when R'= z-C3H7, can be synthesized in high yield by the condensation of the organotin hydroxide with the,'-diorganodithiophosphoric acid to release water which is distilled azeotropically, or taken up in an alcohol solvent corresponding to the phosphoric acid ester group, or by the reaction of the triorganotin chlorides with an alkali-metal salt of the dithiophosphoric acid. The products are colorless, crystalline solids except for the trimethyltin derivatives which are oils. The synthesis of the diisopropyl ester in the triphenyltin series is accompanied byprotodemetalation to yield the bis compound (C6H5) 2Sn-[S2P (OC3H7-¡ j2] 2.
