简介
Manilkara zapota (M. zapota) (Family: Sapotaceae) is a large, slow-growing, evergreen tree that grows in various tropical regions of the world. This plant has exhibited different types of phytochemical constituents from its various parts. Its material property is known to treat cough, cold, fever and the healing of wounds. The present study evaluated the acute toxicity of chloroform and methanolic leaf extracts of M. zapota in mice. M. zapota leaves were extracted successively with chloroform followed by methanol. The study was performed on both chloroform and methanolic leaf extracts in accordance to Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) guidelines. The findings of acute toxicity study showed that the LD50 of both extracts were determined to be greater than 2000 mg/kg.
