There has been increased attention toward the potential utility of distinguishing between alcohol use and abuse among adolescents. The present investigation tested a proposed model of that different etiological factors underlie problem and non-problem drinking. Three different methodological approaches were utilized, including both person-centered and variable-centered approaches, using a sample of 1069 12th graders.
