A series of single-core iron oxide nanoparticle samples have been produced as potential tracer for magnetic particle imaging (MPI) by an aqueous micromixer based synthesis route. Magnetic particle spectroscopy (MPS) reveal the general capability of the produced nanoparticles as MPI tracer, since the MPS spectral amplitudes of most samples are significantly higher than of the MPI gold standard Resovist®. Preliminary MPI investigations using a preclinical field-free-point scanner device confirm the performance enhancement compared to Resovist. The presented synthesis approach stands out due to its high reproducibility as well as cost, time and yield efficiency.
