Vaginal vault cytological smears to detect persisting lower genital tract neoplasia after
hysterectomy are of uncertain effectiveness. This study evaluated reports of women who had
a hysterectomy and were followed up by vault cytology. Systematic search (8 electronic
databases), supplemented by contact with experts and review of bibliographies, was used
