Disordered voice production can result from a wide variety of pathological conditions, with effects ranging from mild disturbances in vocal quality (eg, slight" hoarseness") to complete loss of the ability to produce laryngeal voicing. The speechlanguage pathologist often plays a key role in the management of these disorders. This paper will examine the efficacy of speech-language pathology (SLP) intervention in voice disorders. The examination will include a structured overview of the SLP intervention process, as well as a description of recent trends in intervention. A critical review of the existing research literature concerned with the efficacy of SLP intervention in voice disorders will be provided. Finally, future directions for research efforts aimed at evaluating the efficacy of SLP intervention in voice disorders are suggested.
