After a consideration of the limitations of available sampling methods to estimate the
geographic distribution of Triatominae, we show that species richness in the Americas
agrees with the Rapoport's rule and detects particular pattern features of the main genera of
the subfamily. There is a detailed description of the geographic distribution of the most
important species (as Trypanosoma cruzi vectors) of the genera Rhodnius, Triatoma, and
