The extraction of raw plant material is an initial stage in the preparation of herbal medicinal
products (HMP). In this chapter, specific factors playing a crucial role in the efficacy of the
recovery of active metabolites from medicinal plants are discussed. Based on the definition
of HMP in regulatory documents, the main parameters for the qualification of raw plant
