Quantum networks could enable powerful applications in quantum enhanced distributed
sensing, timekeeping, cryptography and multiparty protocols. The most remarkable
applications of quantum networks require nodes that are intermediate scale quantum
computers that can be coupled (entangled) with photons over long distances. Such nodes
