A laboratory study carried out in India showed that an alcohol extract of neem seed oil
(obtained from Azadirachta indica) completely deterred oviposition by Dacus cucurbitae on
bitter gourds [Momordica charantia] at 5%, and was highly effective at 2.5%. The extract was
also effective in inhibiting oviposition by the pest on guava, although the concentration
required was much higher (20%).
