An intraoperative test for the completeness of vagotomy has been proposed and evaluated
in dogs. It combines the well established vagal stimulatory agent, 2-DG, with a reliable
indicator dye, neutral red, which is specific for the gastric parietal cells. The experimental
results justify evaluation in human subjects.
