Precipitation is a significant climatic parameter that affects many outdoor activities, agricultural production, transportation etc. Also, it can be responsible for many hazards, such as floods, landslides and others. Therefore, the study of the various atmospheric factors that contribute to its formation is an issue of great interest. Precipitation in Greece has been studied by many researches, who have used various approaches (eg Hatzianastassiou et al. 2008, Lolis 2012). Cyclades is an island group located in the southern Aegean Sea, southeast of the Greek mainland. Although precipitation in this area is low (about 350 mm/year), relatively to the other areas of the country, its study is interesting, as this area is a populated touristic place and there are not many recent studies referring to its precipitation regime. Recently, a new technique for the classification of the cases of atmospheric circulation evolution connected to an atmospheric parameter or phenomenon has been adopted (Houssos et al. 2012). In the present work, a similar technique is followed for the classification of the atmospheric circulation evolution cases associated with precipitation in the area of the Cyclades Islands.
