One decade of monitoring of the forest avifauna at Saco da Fazenda, Itajaí, SC. Long-term monitoring of bird communities provides fundamental data to build population models which are valuable instruments to biodiversity conservation. The Saco da Fazenda forest avifauna was monitored monthly through visual censuses from January/1996 to December/2006, adopting the annual average number of birds as a standard measurement of abundance. A total of 59 species were registered, and considering the frequency of occurrence, 23 species whit 49% of frequency were considered migrants birds or species whit low interactions in the environment. The species whit frequencies of occurrence above 60% were species of border of forest and species common in open areas. One similar standard was observed whit the density of species, where the 10 more abundant species had been those associates the open areas. The continuity of such long-term monitoring, could give a substantial contribution to understand interactions among species and to evaluate the importance of the estuarine populations, in a regional context.
