… In this expository paper we survey several features of the theory of Bernstein-Sato
polynomials relating to commutative algebra that have been developed over the last fifteen
years or so. For instance, we discuss a version of Bernstein-Sato polynomial associated to
ideals was introduced by Budur, Mustaţă, and Saito [36]. We also present a version of the
theory for rings of positive characteristic developed by Mustaţă [100] and furthered by Bitoun
