Viral biocontrol has twice been used successfully in Australia to control, but not eradicate, an
important terrestrial pest species, the rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Lessons from those
attempts (McColl et al., 2014) have been used to develop a viral biocontrol program for
common carp (Cyprinus carpio), a cyprinid teleost fish that is the major vertebrate pest in
