Biological computation: A road to complex engineered systems

CE Maldonado - Gómez-Cruz, Nelson & Maldonado, Carlos.(2011 …, 2011 - papers.ssrn.com
Provided that there is no theoretical frame for complex engineered systems (CES) as yet,
this paper claims that bio-inspired engineering can help provide such a frame. Within CES
bio-inspired systems play a key role. The disclosure from bio-inspired systems and
biological computation has not been sufficiently worked out, however. Biological
computation is to be taken as the processing of information by living systems that is carried
out in polynomial time, ie, efficiently; such processing however is grasped by current science …

Biological Computation: A Road to Complex Engineered Systems

CE Maldonado Castaneda, NA Gómez Cruz - 2011 - repository.urosario.edu.co
This article discusses the meaning and scope of biological hypercomputation (BH) that is to
be considered as new research problem within the sciences of complexity. The framework
here is computational, setting out that life is not a standard Turing Machine. Living systems,
we claim, hypercompute, and we aim at understanding life not by what it is, but rather by
what it does. The distinction is made between classical and nonclassical hypercomputation.
We argue that living processes are nonclassical hypercomputation. BH implies then new …
