Chickpea is one of the important pulse crops of Ethiopia that plays a key role in providing
protein to the diets of the population. It has also helped to maintain the Ethiopian soils alive
for centuries since it is the major pulse crop used in rotation with small cereals on Vertisols.
The objective of this review is to compile all the results obtained on chickpea breeding since
