To the Editor: Chronic airflow obstruction (CAO) is a characteristic feature of chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and occurs due to airway and/or alveolar
abnormalities typically associated with exposure to noxious particles or gases.[1] The major
risk factor for CAO is cigarette smoking, but exposure to solid fuel likely influences CAO
