This meta-analysis examined 118 studies of the psychosocial outcomes of children exposed
to interparental violence. Correlational studies showed a significant association between
exposure and child problems (d=− 0.29). Group comparison studies showed that witnesses

Presents the methodology and findings of a meta-analysis which examined research into
psychosocial outcomes for children exposed to intra-parental violence and the range of
moderating factors identified by these studies. A background to research on child witnesses
of violence is provided and it is suggested that the review of 118 studies conducted in a
number of countries indicates a significant association between intra-parental violence and
