Abstract
Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) are emerging as a promising technology for improving road safety, traffic efficiency, and passenger comfort. Routing protocols are a critical component of VANETs, enabling vehicles to exchange information with other network entities. The performance of routing protocols has a significant impact on the overall effectiveness and efficiency of VANETs. This paper provides an overview of routing protocols for VANETs and evaluates their performance in terms of key metrics, including packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, throughput, and network overhead. We compare the performance of several popular routing protocols in different scenarios, such as varying network densities, mobility patterns, and communication requirements. Our analysis reveals that the performance of routing protocols in VANETs is highly dependent on the network conditions and the characteristics of the protocol. We identify several strengths and weaknesses of the evaluated protocols and discuss potential areas for improvement. Overall, this paper contributes to the understanding of routing protocols in VANETs, providing insights into their performance and limitations. The results presented here can guide the selection and design of routing protocols for specific VANET scenarios, ultimately improving the quality of service, reliability, and robustness of these networks.
