Abstract
This qualitative study sought to explore the student teaching experience by documenting and analyzing the online conversations of preservice teachers who participated in an asynchronous listserv during their practicum semester. Data were collected over six semesters. Categories, questions, and methods were refined for five semesters and the sixth semester was intensely studied. Source data included observations, interviews, questionnaires, and document review. The primary data source—text of the online messages—included 3,149 messages from 83 student teachers and 10 university supervisors. There were also approximately 100 hours of face-to-face seminar meetings, 2 case studies, and interviews with key participants.
