Dichromatism in the commensal shrimp Anchistus miersi (De Man, 1888)
Marine Biodiversity, 2015•Springer
We report the first observations of dichromatism found within a single population of
commensal shrimps, Anchistus miersi, collected from a Tridacna clam (subfamily
Tridacninae) in Singapore waters. The male shrimp possessed red spots, while the female
had blue spots. Spot colours were further examined post-preservation, which revealed the
presence of both blue and red pigments in the two specimens. These observations were
then compared to existing information on colour patterns of A. miersi.
