Ectomycorrhizal fungi: role as biofertilizers in forestry

JA Domínguez-Núñez, M Berrocal-Lobo… - Biofertilizers for …, 2019 - Springer
Ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECMF) play a fundamental role in the nutrient cycle in terrestrial
ecosystems, especially in forest ecosystems. In this chapter, the value of ECMF species is
reviewed from a global framework, not only to increase the production of edible fruit bodies
and biomass of plants but also for the regular practices of reforestation and restoration of
ecosystems, with implicit applications in biofertilization, bioremediation, and control of soil
pathogens. The valuation of the ECMF in forest management must be considered …

Balanced fertilizers have all the essential nutrients which accelerate crop growth and
produce more quality food for human and animal consumption. The omission of any of these
(micro-and/or macronutrients) can result in a poor crop harvest and may cause malnutrition
to consumers. The global increase in the cost of fertilizers has forced researchers to
investigate other non-traditional sources of fertilizers, with many traditional and non-
traditional practices having been using to overcome/reduce the dependency on fertilizers. In …
