In recent years, several new applications on soft computing, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and related computer-aided technologies for telemedicine have emerged. Therefore, it is essential to capture this growing area of research, considering the requirements of enhanced telemedicine solutions regarding the current pandemic scenario. This book aims to synthesise recent developments, present case studies and discuss novel methods for enhanced telemedicine and e-health. Numerous methods for enhanced data analysis are available in the literature. Furthermore, the use of these methods in the telemedicine field is of utmost importance for public health. In particular, the Internet of Things systems can provide a continuous flow of data retrieved from cost-effective sensors and be used in multiple healthcare applications. However, to transform this data into knowledge, it is necessary to apply computer-aided methods. The application of these methods will significantly promote people’s daily routine. Therefore, it is imperative to merge the recent technological advances on soft computing, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things to develop emergent applications that aim to solve complex challenges and contribute to overall public health and well-being. The book presents the latest findings on how computer-aided technologies are being applied in telemedicine and e-health. The chapters of this book involve multiple domains such as artificial intelligence and soft computing to transform the data collected by intelligent systems to relevant and reliable information to support medical decision-making.
This volume is structured into three parts based on the critical areas of the application of telemedicine. The first part presents five chapters that focus on intelligent systems for enhanced telemedicine. The opportunities and limitations of telemedicine are analysed. The second part includes six chapters regarding the prominence of Internet of Things-based systems for medical decision-making. The third part contains reviews and case studies on the use of soft computing and artificial intelligence for enhanced health. This section includes five chapters covering machine learning for health risk prediction, emotion recognition, disease diagnosis and prediction.
