An experiment was conducted to evaluate 13 cultivars of Gladiolus Hb-1-8, Hb-1-28, Hb-1-33, Hb-4-16, Hb-2-22, Hb-2-52, Hb-15-4, Hb-15-A, Hb-15-B, Hb-3-4, Hb-3-56, Hb-9-16 and Hb-6-31 at experimental farm, RHFRS, Bhota (Hamirpur) in the month of March 2012. The aim of study was to evaluate adaptability and performance of cultivar under the climatic conditions of low hills of Himachal Pradesh. Result on vegetative characteristics showed that cultivar Hb1-8, Hb 9-16, Hb-1-28 took lesser number of days for sprouting. The plant with maximum height were observed in cultivar hb-1-8, Hb-1-28, Hb-15-A and Hb-15-4 with maximum number of leaves. Result on floral characteristics’ showed that cultivar Hb-1-8 and Hb-1-28 took minimum days to spike emergence. Cultivars Hb-2-52, Hb-9-16 and Hb-1-8 took minimum day to flowering, maximum florets were produced by cultivar Hb-1-8, Hb-1-28, Hb-1-33, Hb-1-28and Hb-15-4. Maximum spike length was observed in cultivars Hb-1-8, Hb-1-28 and Hb-15-4 remain attractive for longer time. Keeping in view the vegetative and reproductive characteristic cultivars Hb-1-8, Hb-1-15-4, Hb-2-52 Hb-15-B were performed better and are recommended for general cultivation.
