Allicin as the best-known active compound of garlic (Allium sativum) has a vast variety of
biological effects. The effect of iron sulfate was evaluated on allicin, cysteine, growth and
protein contents of Allium sativum explants. Garlic bulbs were surface-sterilized and cultured
on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium for 1 month then transferred to the medium
supplemented with different concentrations of iron sulfate for 10 and 20 day periods. At the
